December Daily Album
This is a project close to my heart. For all the things which are made and packaged to leave the house at Christmas…..this one stays home. It is a gift of remembrance for me. I have been scrapbooking for 11 years, yet I only did this project for the first time last year. I mourn that I did not think to do this years before when my kids were younger. For each Christmas, I have a 2 page scrapbook layout completed in a scrapbook. But this project digs deep….it’s about celebrating the every day joy of the month of December. Not just the one Read More »

Recycled Starbucks Coffee Cup Christmas Scrapbook
This has to be one of the neatest projects ever! Recycle a Starbucks coffee cup into a Scrapbook! Genius! However, I cannot take credit for this project…the inspiration came from this post on Ali Edwards site. The coffee cup makes a great sturdy cover for a little book. You begin by first rinsing out the used cup. Take scissors and cut out the bottom of the cup. Then fold like a book and carefully, with scissors, trip down one side so that your book opens. Then you use the coffee cup to make a template for the interior pages, making Read More »

This week I will be putting all the Halloween decorations away. I will start decorating for Christmas after November 12. An Oatmeal Breakfast Bar
I thought I would share one of our favourite breakfasts on cold winter mornings~ An oatmeal breakfast bar. I started doing this a few years ago for my kids to ‘up’ the fun factor for breakfast. The kids and I really like oatmeal….it’s just fun to have different topping to change it up a bit. It’s a super easy project that takes little time. You just need a few jars, a pen and some labels. Label the jars of oatmeal toppings. Below are some of our favourite oatmeal toppings. I try to keep it healthy~craisins, dried fruit, nuts & seeds & brown sugar. But Read More »
A Little Pink in My Life: The ‘Mom Cave’.
This is my little ‘Mom Cave’. It’s not a room….but just a small nook at the top of the stairs on our second story. I have claimed it as my very own home office and creative nook. The goal of this space is to be both functional and pretty. I have included touches of my favourite colour~ soft pink. {This is the only place you will find pink in the entire house.} It’s a place where I write blog posts, pay bills, watch a little tv, & read blogs. Do a little scrapbooking or cardmaking. You can find me here Read More »
Mudroom Remix
My project for this week was mixing things up in the mudroom. My goal was to give it a little more character….to make it feel more like a room. I wrote this post a while ago about the secrets of a great mudroom. I wanted to give my mudroom a personality of it’s own by adding a shelf and moving things around. This was what was on the wall when I started. Just a simple collage…of photos and Amy Butler paper in frames. My ‘project’ manager this week was my Dad. After I picked up a shelf and brackets at Ikea…he Read More »

Delicious Italian Wedding Soup…
I am not sure about everybody else, but I am still full from Thanksgiving Dinner over a week ago! We had a fun week of leftover turkey and desserts. A great find at Anthropologie…
Over this past week, I had a chance to visit Anthropologie. I love that store for all it’s pretty and romantic goods. I seldom buy anything, but I do enjoy looking. And I always make sure that I check out the sales. This week I found these… ~monogrammed candles. They smell wonderful and burn for 40 hours. I have looked at them before, but thought the price a bit too high for my tastes. But this time: Regular Price $30.00 Marked down to this: Yes. It says ‘$3.95’. Terrific deal. I purchased one for our house….and picked up a few others Read More »
The November Issue of Canada’s Style at Home…
This issue arrived in my mailbox this week. I adore it. There are so many fabulous images….. like~ ~the front cover styled with things from Home Sense {Home Goods in the US}~ ~this gorgeous white room with accents of a fresh green for Christmas~ ~ or this traditional-looking room with exposed brick fireplace and the cozy, cheerfulness of the red~ This issue is wonderful~ There is so much eye candy and loveliness within it’s pages.
Have you seen the November issue of Canadian House & Home?
Did you recognize the room on the front cover? I did immediately. It’s the mudroom from Season 3 of Sarah’s House~ The Farmhouse. I think Season 3 was my favourite season of Sarah’s house so far. The Farmhouse is Sarah’s family’s winter retreat. They spend Christmas here with family & friends. And inside the issue was a peak of how Sarah decorates for the season~ I love the really tall Christmas tree and how it becomes the focal point of the room. So pretty. I hope Sarah & Tommy do another Christmas special this year. Love, love, love her ideas Read More »
Switching out decor….Thanksgiving to Halloween…
Today was the “switch out” day. I put away the Thanksgiving things and got out our Halloween things. A month ago I decorated for Thanksgiving. Here is what the coffee table looked like then: And here is what it looks like now: I love trays. They can make a display of items look so interesting. This tray was a Goodwill find about 2 years ago. It cost me $7.99 I also adore displays of apothecary jars. {I have seen so many wonderful ideas in blogland with apothecary jars.} The two tall apothecary jars are from Walmart about 3 years ago. The Read More »
Happy Thanksgiving!
I am so grateful for the many blessings in my life. Happy Thanksgiving to all my wonderful family, friends & blog readers! And if it wasn’t Thanksgiving in your neck of the woods, I hope you had an amazing fall weekend nonetheless~ I spent time with my family and enjoyed the glorious weather we are having in this northern city! And I also completed some projects in the kitchen besides cooking a turkey. I tackled this wonderful brown butter spice layer cake for our Thanksgiving dessert. The recipe came from the October issue of Fine Cooking. {It also makes a Read More »
Easy Way To Label Kitchen Jars
Today I tackled a kitchen project that I have been contemplating for a while. My kitchen is very small…with not a lot of counter space. I have a ‘baking centre’ tucked into a corner cupboard of my kitchen where I store all of my baking supplies. But bending into a corner cupboard to get out large containers of flour and sugar often is not fun. So…. I decided to solve that problem by doing this: I had some glass canisters from Ikea & Walmart. First, I emptied & washed them out. Then I dug these out of my scrapbooking stash of Read More »
Menu Plan Monday…& Making Your Food Budget Go Far…
Did you know that I feed my family of 4 for about $500-$600 a month in groceries? This is strictly food only….no cleaning supplies, or shampoo, etc. I keep that budget separate. How does this compare to your budget? What do you spend a month in groceries? {Remember that my budget is in Canadian dollars} The guru of grocery budgets is Angela from the Grocery Shrink. blog. Her family budget for groceries {in U.S. dollars} is about $50 a month per person. According to that formula, my grocery budget should be around $200 a month. As my grandmother Ada used to Read More »
Planning for Thanksgiving…
Next weekend is Thanksgiving…. the countdown is on. I have planned the menu and bought the groceries for the menu. Except for the fresh turkey…I will pick that up later this week. Fresh cranberries for cranberry sauce. Check. I will make the cranberry sauce ahead of dinner by a day or two. Assorted green and orange vegetables. Check. Wine. Check Decorations for the table. Hmmmm. I wanted something to leave on the table all this week. Something natural. Something simple dimple. This is what I decided on. I found these at Superstore for $2.68. I purchased 2 bags. I found Read More »

My little world of brown & blue….
I love parties! Today I am joining the Blue & Brown Bonanza over at Cottage Instincts. I love blue & brown together. It’s one my fav colour combinations ever. The one room in my house that needs to be serene and calm is our bedroom. I want it to be a chamber of peacefulness…not busy or loud….not bright or overstimulating. Enter a cafe mocha brown on the walls with fabric accents in soft grey blue. It works for us. It feels restful. A respite from busy days. You will probably find blue and brown in every room in my house. My living room has brown leather Read More »
Are you getting ready for chilly weather?
I am. I have to. The chilly mornings are here. This is the shelf of the closet in our mudroom. I picked up 4 baskets from Canadian Tire for $7.99 each. I sorted & purged. Then I labelled. Shipping tags from Staples. Ribbon from my scrapbooking stash. The labelling part is so important! It keeps people from making a mess while looking for something in a hurry. My ‘Messy Marvin’ likes to wear a tuque to school in the morning when it’s chilly. This helps us to find things in a jiffy. This post is linked up to:
A Striking Contrast…..
It’s Monday morning and I just got home from walking the dogs. I came upstairs to start to gather laundry. I couldn’t help but notice this striking contrast… Here we have Exhibit A: My daughter’s room. Bed made. Clothes put away. Room looks neat & tidy. Here we have Exhibit B: My son’s room. {Sigh} Yeah. A room only a mother could love.
