I just love this meal. It comes together so fast and everybody likes it. I am talking about Mu Shu Pork. My kids laugh when we talk MuShu’ for dinner. I think there’s even a Veggie Tales song with Mu Shu in it…can’t remember the name of the song though. {oh yeah…it’s called Do the Mu Shu} Mu Shu Pork 1 large pork tenderloin {about 1 pound}, cut into 1/2 inch strips 1 tablespoon Asian chili-garlice sauce 2 tablespoons vegetable oil 8 oz. shiitake mushrooms, stemmed and sliced thin {I have used regular mushrooms} 1 tablespoon grated fresh ginger Read More »
A Sweet Treat for Teacher…
Can I just say first how much I LOVE this project? Small, little gifts are just the best….in my opinion. But alas, I cannot take credit for this idea….I was inspired by this post over at Eighteen25 Blog. Those girls are just amazing! Doesn’t your brain just swim with possibilities for this idea? Wouldn’t it be a great treat box for a birthday party with brightly coloured candies inside? Or office supplies? Or hair accessories? Or costume jewellery? Or a ‘Barbie’ theme? Or Lego? Or Hotwheels? Just so fun! *** This project starts off with a trip to the Dollarama for these boxes… And Read More »

How To Organize Photo Negatives & Printed Pictures
Almost 6 years ago, I moved 3000 miles across the country. It was a big move. One of the things that I wanted to make sure made the move safely were my precious picture negatives of my babies growing up. I made the decision to hand carry my negatives myself in my carry-on baggage. This way I knew that they would make the journey safely…with no danger of being lost or damaged by the moving company. So I organized my negatives into a binder using protective negative sleeves. I moved all my negatives into the negative sleeves, and arranged them chronologically. Read More »
How To Organize Greeting Cards
So today I scheduled in a little time to tackle this project that I have been wanting to do forever. Not really forever. But at least since I re-organized my office space. I had greetings cards ‘thrown’ into an Ikea storage box. Every time I wanted a card, I had to rifle through the whole box to find what I was looking for. No more. I took some bright pink cardstock and my index tab punch. I love that index tab punch. {I chose bright pink cardstock because it’s easy to see and doesn’t blend in with the cards.} I Read More »

If you have never visited Maria’s blog…you might want to go visit. She is a Vancouver-based interior designer who does fabulous work and her blog is so full of inspiring ideas and information. Easy Crockpot Taco Soup
This is one of our absolute favourite meals in the winter. It’s so good on a cold chilly day. You can also make it in the slow cooker…or on the stove top in a dutch oven. You can change the vegetables and beans to suit your family’s taste. It freezes well too. It can be served with tortilla chips, pita bread, rolls or bread. It makes a terrific meal for a crowd too….great after a winter skating party or tobogganing. I served this to my book club…and everyone wanted the recipe. It’s great after Christmas…when everyone is all ‘turkeyed’ out. Taco Read More »
Blogger please behave….
So I made a few little changes to my header above. Now it won’t load with nice clear pictures. Why.Oh. Why. This is what it’s supposed to look like. Drats! When I wake up tomorrow morning….can it please be magically fixed on it’s own?
And moving on to ‘Happy {Hearts} Day’…
So I skipped over decorating my mantel…or anything…. for Winter. I have enough winter outside my front door thank you. And this technically is not a mantel. It’s the top of a piano. A ‘piano-tel’ if you will. I had all of these things already…except for the Valentine jelly bean mix, which I picked up this morning. The picture of Ron and I is from our first month of dating almost 20 years ago. And the other picture is the fruit of our 20 years together…our 2 little sweeties. The absolutely gorgeous Valentine-themed subway art came from Eighteen 25. {I love those girls Read More »
When she was four…..
“Not too many things catch your heart in this world, so whatever catches your heart you should do. ” ~Michelle Kelly, Athlete {1974- } When she was 4 years old, one day out of the blue, she started asking me about skating. “Mommy. I want to learn how to skate. I want to wear a dress and twirl.” I didn’t pay a lot of attention at first because I thought it was a passing fancy for a little 4 year old girl. I don’t skate myself…other than the odd winter skate. But this request from my curly girl didn’t ‘pass’ or Read More »
Home Goals for 2011…
The caring and keeping of home is a never ending job. But it’s a job I love…..and I hope everyone who enters our home feels it’s warmth. I do have a few home goals for 2011 and they are: 1. To keep it looking fresh and pretty. 2. To put frames around these ugly standard issue builders bathroom mirrors. 3. To pretty up this mudroom closet by freshening the back wall which has seen too many shoe and boot marks. I am thinking paint or wallpaper. It would be nice to use paint I already have…along with a graphic stencil. 4. Read More »
How To Plan for Next Christmas…
Let me share what I have been doing for the past 2 weeks. Planning for Chrismtas 2011. Yes! It sounds silly I know. But doing it this way saves mucho time and money later on. I am shopping all the terrific sales this time of year in stores that are really quiet to meet all our needs for next Christmas….at 60% to 75% off. There are two types of buying that I do for Christmas: 1-Things bought every year like boxed cards, special cards, Christmas crackers, wrapping paper and stickers. 2-Things bought every 4-5 years to change things up a bit or to replace what has been Read More »
What every girl’s desk needs…
How about some Amy Butler? While trolling through Homesense {Homegoods} a few days ago, I came across these desk accessories by Amy Butler. I have professed my love for Amy Butler many times on this blog…how I adores her fun fresh patterns and colour combinations. There were 2 colourways on the shelves….a blue/turquoise/green combo and this pretty pink combo. I came away with this collection for my desk area. A desktop organizer… A packet of post-it notes…. Files folders… And binders… Inside the binders are these fun dividers… I spent a few hours today cleaning up my desk area and Read More »
Welcome 2011….and how I can’t wait to ‘organize’ you…
Happy 2011! I have been having a great vacation with my family these past 2 weeks. I have been taking a “technology break”. I haven’t been blogging, or spending much time on the computer. We have been enjoying lots of pj time and hanging out. Of course, it will all end on Monday morning when everyone is back to school and work. Today I am lounging around and watching Season 3 of Mad Men. I am obsessed with that show…the fashions, the furniture and the rotary telephone. I also opened up my new planner for 2011. I love this planner. I Read More »
And a Merry Christmas to all…
Bonjour Mes Amies! I hope your days and hours are filled with joy as we approach Christmas. Our house was hit with the flu…first me, then my hubby, then Tyler and lastly Hunter. Hunter fainted in the bathroom while she was ill and took 10 years off my life. But all is well now. I thought I would share some of things that I have been working on. Our December Daily Album… I kept the design very simple and clean-lined this year…it helps to make the project less overwhelming in trying to keep up. Pages for Day 1: Page for Read More »
Christmas Merry-Making at our house…..
I took a little break from blogging this week to focus on my family and Christmas projects. My Christmas cards and packages to Nova Scotia & New Brunswick went to the care of Canada Post this week. Hunter took some time to work on little gifts for the girls on her skating team: {We will share more details later.} My little guy has a bad cold and cough and I made sure he got to bed early this week. Tomorrow we are having friends over for dinner, so tonight I have prepared the menu plan before I visit the grocery store in the morning. Read More »
10 Things I Hope My 9 Year Old Son Will LOVE Come Christmas Morning….
I hope my 9 yr. old doesn’t take a look at this post between now and Christmas! I am trusting he will be too busy! Santa shopping is all done here. Here is what he chose for Mr. Tyler. He chose things he hopes he will enjoy…to play with, read and have fun. Simple & basic. No fancy schmancy clothes for him…clothes are not his thing. {Clothes are bought for him when he needs them.} No expensive electronics. No thousands of dollars spent on Christmas. These are his stocking stuffers and gifts. What does not fit into the large knitted sock will rest Read More »
Christmas House Tour 2010
The decorating is done at our house. And I have promised myself not to ‘tweak’ anymore. It’s time to just enjoy and move on to other things of the season. Our dining table has this simple basket of ornaments~ I started off with this look….but it wasn’t working for me~ So I removed everything and started again. This works much better with the rest of the house~ And here is the side table in the corner of the living room~ This nativity set is a precious keepsake. It belonged to my grandparents and I remember it in the living room Read More »
My name is Angie. I am a ‘tweak’ freak.
I just finished tweaking this. Yesterday it looked like this: I can’t decide which I like better. Maybe it’s not even tweaking….more like a total re-do. But I will probably leave it this way until after Christmas. Then I will put away the silver & blue & green, and go back to the white wintery look. How many times have you tweaked decor around your house? Are you a ‘tweak freak’ like me? Welcome to the ‘Tweak Freak” club! I am linking this post to:
Finished Photo Trays…
I thought I would share the finished photo trays before they go into the care of Canada Post to be delivered to Grandparents who live far, far away, but are much loved and missed every day… You can read more about the making of these projects here. But here is the empty tray I started with: The photography is with my digital Canon Rebel at the local greenhouse. Photo Tip: After years of making my kids shiver outside for pictures…I just had an ‘aha’ moment when I realized that the local greenhouse was the ideal location~and when I asked… I Read More »
Organizing for baking….
This week we are getting ready to tackle some Christmas baking projects. So I took a quick look through my pantry and gathered up all of the Christmas-themed items we might need~ cupcake liners, boxes, bags, candy sprinkles and decorations. Now we have everything we need front & center…no digging around!
My day today…
…trying to get these rascals to be semi-serious for about 10 seconds for our annual Christmas card photo shoot.
And a little more decorating….
Can you believe that this week will bring us December 1st already? I am mostly finished the little decorating projects I wanted to do around our house…except for the Christmas trees. The martini bar in my living room got a little sparkle last week. This is how everything looked a month ago: This week I will need to go through the martini bar and do a little sorting & organizing~ you know~ make sure that all our favourite festive ingredients are stocked. Candy Cane martinis and Crantinis are so fun at Christmas! This post is linked to these fun parties:
Christmas Mantel 2010
Last Thursday I was determined to finish up my decorating for Christmas. I went to the basement storage room to dig out some ornaments….and this turned into a full 7 hour basement ‘excavation’. I ended up taking 6 boxes of stuff to Goodwill and clearing out 2 bags of garbage. I never did get the decorating done~ I was too pooped. The decorating had to wait until Friday morning instead~ this is what I did with the ‘mantel’. I have chosen a theme of sparkly white & silver with accents of blue & green for my indoor decor. And I have to Read More »
Christmas Decor: Tray Play
Have I mentioned before how much I love my $7.99 wicker tray from Goodwill? I play with it all the time! It gives such a nice platfrom to decorate a table. Here it is all ready for Christmas…and I think this will carry us right through ’til Spring. I used natural elements such as pine cones, nuts and wicker balls. I may add some glass balls as it gets closer to Christmas. I use my tray for every season~it just works so well for displaying items. Here it is for summer: All ready for Thanksgiving in September: All dressed up Read More »
Christmas Swag
Last week I began decorating for Christmas. I started with first impressions…the front door. I love traditional red & green for the outside of my house…which is white with green shutters. Between the snow and the white house, red & green is a nice pop of colour. I dug out this wreath which I had made 9 years ago. I still love it. It features frosted fruit… an idea which I originally saw in Martha Stewart’s magazine years ago. Last year I added the red sparkly ‘Believe’ to update it a little. This is the Fall Wreath that was there BEFORE: Read More »
Taking Care of Mom At Christmas
This is the last post of my “Getting Organized” for Christmas series. I’ve shared lots of ideas for planning for the Holiday season, crafting projects and recipes. When I started this series, I had planned for 5 posts, but then I kept finding projects that I had made 1 or 2 or 5 years ago. So I kept going. Thank you for allowing me to share with you! It’s been so fun. I have heard from many people inspired to make projects and to bake goodies. That’s so awesome! My last little project is not about making anything. It’s about taking Read More »
Cherry Balls
My mother started making cherry balls sometime in the early ’80’s…and they have always been a favourite of mine. When I lived at home, I used to eat them out of the freezer where my mother had safely stowed them away until Christmas. I can attest that they are just as good frozen as they are at room temperature! This is another easy recipe…no oven required! This also a great project to do with kids since it involves using play dough skills. The recipe: 1/ 2 cup butter 1-1/2 cups coconut 1-1/2 cups icing sugar 1-Tablespoon milk or water 1/2 teaspoon Read More »
Calendar Gift Idea
Grandparents. They really deserve something special for Christmas, don’t they? This year I am treating the special Grandparents in our life to a homemade calendar with pictures of their grandkids. I purchased the calendar base from my local scrapbook store for $11.99 {Making Memories line.} It’s a coil bound scrapbook in 8.5 X 11″ size with pre-printed calendar pages inside. I am making this calendar x 2~ one for each set of grandparents. The first step was choosing the pictures and visiting the local drugstore to get them printed. I started by decorating the cover: I used a very basic format for Read More »
Scrapbook Gift in a Tin
I thought I would share this project that I made for my Grandmother for Christmas. It’s a scrapbook made in a Stampin’ Up square tin. {I’ve had some emails from people telling me that they cannot find the round altoid tins…only the square tins. So I wanted to show a project in a square tin and I think it works just as well! The square altoid tin is smaller than this tin…but the idea is the same.} The front of the tin is covered with scrapbook paper and inked around the edges for a vintage feel. Then I added a yellow Read More »
