A picture is worth a thousand words, which is why I have been a scrapbooker and keeper of memorabilia for years. Pictures give us a tangible time capsule of memories to cherish of good times with family & friends for years to come, and without them we would be lost. One of my favourite memories to capture each year is that of our camping vacation. As we look over past years’ pictures, it’s so fun to see how our kids have grown, when we upgraded to a new tent and the summer we bought a new-to-us boat for fishing adventures. This summer, I was so thrilled to try out the new Fujifilm X-A2 Digital Camera for capturing our summer memories.
Before I get to our vacation memories, I have to say that the first thing that grabbed me about this camera was it’s chic retro styling. The body of this camera gives a slight nod to the by-gone era of film cameras. It comes in black, white or brown and while it has a retro look, it has all of the amazing features you would expect from a modern day digital camera. It is also fairly compact and lightweight for a digital SLR, and it was easy to stash in my backpack for our camping trip.
Our family travels to Northern Alberta for an annual 2 week camping trip in July where we relax, swim, fish and cook over an open campfire. One of our favourite things about this provincial park is it’s gorgeous canopy of trees and pretty vegetation…all of which I was able to capture with the X-A2. The X-A2 can take self-portraits, landscapes, macro shots, low light or flash photography…so it has all of the features for a wide variety of creativity to capture beautiful memories with just one camera!
I used the macro feature to capture some of the lovely wildflowers around our campsite. I cannot tell you how enjoyable it was to walk around with this camera and have fun just playing with the features in the quiet peacefulness of the campground. And look at the gorgeousness of this crisp photo. You can even see the tiny water droplets on the green leaves of the flower!
This was the summer that my husband felt that it was time for our son to learn to chop wood for our campfire. I captured this ‘first’ with the X-A2 and I even shot a little video of the wood chopper doing his chore. The video function on this camera is very easy to use with just a quick push of a button. It is wonderful to have the spontaneity of both a high quality camera and video camera in one.
I tried out action shots with the X-A2 on a boating excursion while we enjoyed an afternoon of water play. Again, the X-A2 took incredible shots of my kids surfing the wake. Every shot I took was clear and crisp and showed wonderful definition of both the water and the surfer. I treasure these photos so much because only 2 summers ago this boy could barely get up out of the water at all on a wake board, but now he has mastered this skill. This camera really does all of the work for you and taking treasured photos of important memories has never been easier. My expectations for the performance of this camera have constantly been surpassed.
With the X-A2 being so lightweight, it was pretty easy to keep with me at all times, so when tender moments came up, I knew that I could just grab & shoot and the camera would give perfect results…like this one of our son and his sidekick on his lap.
And it is during our camping trips that I love to experiment with tin foil pack cooking, like this crazy good and delightful peach and blueberry french toast. The camera certainly makes it look as delicious as it was in real life!
Every year, it is our tradition to have a ‘fish fry’ with our friends…with the fresh tasty fish that we caught, along with some homemade fries & salad. It is the perfect dinner to end another successful summer camping trip!
Overall, this camera has so many features packed into it that it makes a wonderful all-in-one camera for anyone looking for the latest in digital features, beautiful quality images and portability. My favourite feature, besides all the stunning images it produces, it the easy wireless transfer of pictures to a Smartphone or computer. This means that this busy mom no longer has to walk around the house searching for a camera cord to download photos! How cool is that? Brilliant!
If you are are visual learner, like me, you will appreciate all of the video support that Fujifilm offers. There are several videos on Youtube like this one that show how to get it the camera set up and how to use it’s many features.
Here are some important features of the Fujifilm X-A2 Camera:
1. It has a selfie mode if you love to take selfies!
2. An eye detection auto focus.
3. Multi-target auto focus.
4. It was easy wifi {wireless} transfer to your iPhone or computer.
5. Classic chrome color.
6. Auto macro mode where you can take pictures of objects up to just 15 cm away.

I would like to capture this upcoming family Christmas with the Fuji A-2. We have missed out on a lot of great photo opportunities due to our other camera being 15 years old, many pics are blurry or dark & we need an updated camera to shoot some sharp, crisp images.

I took photography classes in high school and still use my FujiFilm manual film SLR every once in a while! I would love to have a digital one to capture the more spontaneous moments, as it’s tough to do this when you have to load and wind film!
