Your Dad and I cannot believe it has been 13 years since we held you in our arms for the first time….our little curly girl has grown into a lovely young lady. Hunter we are so proud of the young person you have become….your amazing grades in school, your passion for your skating, your dedication to the little children you tutor in french reading, your love of literature and your yummy cookies from the kitchen. I cherish the goodnight kiss you give me at bedtime. Kisses to our big girl.
room with a view…
A pink room for the little 8 year old girl that moved into this house. The almost 13 year old young lady decides she would like a little more sophistication…so after a shopping trip with Dad to buy new bedding….and a trip to the paint store with Mom….. This one day project is done. A new room for a young lady. Happy Birthday Sweetie!! xo
Nie Nie….
Meet Stephanie Aurora Clark Nielson. She is lovely. A wonderful wife and mother of four. Also a talented blogger who writes the “nienie dialogues”. She wrote about the joys of being a mother, wife, and keeper of the home. It was amazing stuff to read….and was, and still is, one of my favorite blogs. Nie lived in Arizona with her family….a happy life. August 16, 2008 is a day that all of us nie nie dialogue readers will NEVER forget. Nie and her husband Christian were in a plane crash while on a short day trip to New Mexico. All Read More »
home….
Home just feels so good. Lots of people are complaining about the amount of rain that is coming down…but I am taking a “glass half full approach”. There are so many things to enjoy…the company of family and friends….the beautiful lush green plants everywhere…good food and fresh seafood…and a total slowed down pace of life. My kids had so much fun with their “Chicago Cousins”….we hung out with them everyday and played and ate and visited. It was pure bliss. Dear daughter was invited for a 3 day camping trip to PEI with some friends…and we were so very grateful Read More »
making a home…
“Never make your home in a place. Make a home for yourself inside your own head. You’ll find what you need to furnish it–memory, friends you can trust, love of learning, and other such things. That way it will go with you wherever you journey.” Tad Williams, Stone of Farewell
father’s day….
We took our Big Daddy out for dinner. It was such a treat for us because we don’t often go out to eat since we cook most of our meals at home. We decided to try a totally different dining experience…we went to a Japanese restaurant where the chef cooked our meal at our very own table with lots of entertaining knife tricks, salt & pepper juggling and a smoking onion ‘volcano’ on the grill. We enjoyed a wonderful 5 course dinner of soup, salad, shrimp, steak and chicken. We really relished this experience and look forward to trying some Read More »
yummy goodness…
We are so very lucky in this house. A 12 year old loves to bake. A few Saturdays ago I left the house for a few hours. When I came home I found out that the 12 year old who had read this….. then got busy and made these…. chocolate chip cupcakes iced with chocolate ganache. yummy!
signs of summer…
a few flowers for the back patio… a new centrepiece for the table… cooking dinner on the bbq…. a new pink bicycle ready for rides… biking to school….

My pink beauty…..
My sweet husband has set out to pick up this bike for me today. I have been literally swooning over this bike since I saw it! The Electra ‘Townie’. in ‘pink pearl’. Love the retro styling and it has ‘flat foot’ technology which allows the rider to ride in an upright position, as opposed to hunched over and staring at pavement as on a mountain or road bike. So much better for hips, backs and hands. I don’t need to ride hunched over…I am not a racer or an off-road biker. I am simply a pleasure seeker who likes to Read More »
it’s happened….
I have become a person I used to make fun of…Back in the Maritimes we have a chain of stores called “Frenchy’s” or as my late Grammie Ada used to say “Francois’s Boutique”. These lovely stores provide a gold mine for Maritime shoppers in the form of gently used clothing at bargain prices shipped from unknown sources in New England. On any given day, you can dive into the “bins” at Frenchy’s and come up with Tommy Hilfiger, Liz Claiborne, Ralph Lauren, L.L. Bean and almost every other coveted brand out there. The brilliance of Frenchy’s shopping is that all Read More »
jumping to conclusions….
See this little boy. Spending a lot a time in his bedroom is not his favorite pastime….he would rather be in the still-cold-from-winter garage shooting pucks with a big runny nose. Or in the family room playing hockey on the beloved Wii. Or just hanging out on his rump..watching TV. Often, he will quickly go into his room to get something. Or to put something on his body. But not to stay….oh no…the bedroom is just a place to travel to and from. However, yesterday the siblings got into a scuffle. This involved Big Daddy getting involved….and if you are Read More »
a ‘changeout’ for spring….
Here we are ready for Christmas. A nice urn of greenery with some pops of red. Spring has arrived. My mom designed this refreshing change. Due to the fact that although it is SPRING, we can have, on any given day, snow, rain & sunshine, we have used delightful flower ‘reproductions’.
catching up…..
As every scrapooker knows, the bane of our scrapbook existance is the game of “catching up”. Once you get hooked on this hobby…you feel the need to go back and scrapbook-prettify every picture in your life. In reality, this is an impossible task…and even if time would allow…I think you would suffer from creative burnout long before the task would be complete. This weekend I had the pleasure of attending a 3 day scrapbook retreat at a rustic ranch an hour outside of town. In between the great food, detoxifying saunas, “slush” drinks, reading & naps….I was able to complete Read More »
simple beauty….
I came home from my 3 day scrapbook retreat to find this arrangement on the coffee table. The hockey team that Ron coached this winter had a gathering on Friday night, and a bouquet of flowers was given to Ron for me. To my surprise, Hunter had opened up the bouquet, cut the stems and arranged them in this clear vase. I found out that she had spent Saturday with a skating friend and her mom, and among other things, they had a lesson in arranging flowers from a visiting Aunt who used to be a florist. Hunter designed this Read More »
Menu Plan Monday…
(photo credit: Country Living) One thing that is helpful about posting Menu Plan Mondays on a blog is that you can look back and see what meals worked and what meals send you back to the drawing board. When I get into a rut when it comes to meal planning, I always spend a few hours with my cookbooks to get inpsired. I like to cook from recipes….it helps me to broaden my horizons and venture outside my comfort zone to try new things. Once I make something a few times from a recipe, then I can tweak it a Read More »
team P….
This is what the E Bunny brought the P kids…..roller blades. Now it’s game time….Dad takes all in the cul de sac. If I could skate I would be out there too….well….maybe not…I’m too much of a klutz…let alone putting little wheels on.
Happy Birthday Dude……
We had a great little party of just a few of his close friends…..played floor hockey in the school gym followed by cake and fun. My super talented friend made this cake for him.
Menu Plan Monday…..
This week is Spring Break for us. It’s really nice to have a break from routine and to just hang out and take the day as it comes. I have recently been enjoying the blog of Eddie Ross. Eddie Ross was senior stylist at Martha Stewart Living and also appeared on “Top Design”. He has gone out on his own to bring his design savvy to the marketplace under his own name. He and his partner have purchased a farmhouse which they are busy at work restoring and refreshing. The above photo is an example of Eddie’s style and it Read More »
being a devoted dad….
Lots of learning this winter. Making new friends. Early mornings. Friday practices. Tough games. Hard fought wins. Frustrating losses. Running a team. Working with coaching staff. Lots of fun & laughter. Thanks for being such an amazing dad.
Menu Plan Monday…
With the economy being what it is, and my husband working for a US-based company, we are buckling up our budget, so to speak. This means evaluating all areas where we spend money and re-thinking choices and looking at areas where we can cut back or save. One area where it is relatively easy to save money is on the grocery bill. Watching the weekly sales flyers on a regular basis can definitely save money if you carefully shop the sales and plan your menu accordingly. I have taken our household to a “pantry” system, where we cook mainly from Read More »
living life….
This blog has been neglected for some time. What have I been doing? Living life. The winter also gets crazy busy in our household with skating season and hockey season in full tilt. Competition season for skating starts in January and we have been to Calgary, Regina and Toronto. We had some sad news in our skating community in October. Our club president, who also co-manages 2 teams, had the awful news that her husband was diagnosed with terminal cancer and he had weeks/months to live. This affected many in our club for different reasons. They have 3 children and Read More »
what’s a girl to do?
I am so done with winter. I love winter when it comes, and I don’t mind snow and a few cold snaps here and there. But at this point, it being March and all, I want winter to be over. We woke up Saturday to the sounds of cars crunching softly on snow…I knew without even looking out the window that we had more snow. And today is a nice brisk -40! Now, I have lived in this province for almost 4 years now and I am USED to -15….-15 is nice for a walk for me. -40 is way Read More »
read this on one of my favorite blogs this morning…
What I realized is that there is not just one big moment of courage in our lives. There are many. These moments come to us in different ways. At times we are forced into a leap (unexpected pregnancy, when parents or partners pass away, when we loose our job). At times we are called into a leap (when someone invites us for a trip of a lifetime, when our partner wants to move to a new city, when we are offered a chance, when we take the “money maker” role to support our family). Then there are also the daily Read More »

skating season….
Whoah! This blog has been neglected for far too long! January is when our competition season for skating begins and it pretty much takes over my life for a weeks. We started with Dress Rehearsal on January 3rd and then the first competition in the big city 3 hours away. I am co-managing a team this year, as well as organzing a team of volunteers for a Casino in April. The Casino is very important….it brings in $60,000-$70,000 for the club…which helps pay for travel, etc. This means I am fielding numerous emails, phone calls and other stuff to get Read More »
christmas rehab….
A few years ago I admitted myself to Christmas “rehab”. Yes…I needed some work because the season was no longer enjoyable to me…..I was leaving everything to the last minute and having meltdowns because of the pressure. Something had to change……so I decided to do a complete rehaul of my Christmas habits. Number one on the list was dealing with the shopping…I would no longer leave my shopping to the week prior to Christmas. Full parking lots, empty shelves and long lineups be gone…..my new plan involved completing my shopping by December 1st…and NOT only would the shopping be done…but Read More »
getting ready for the season…
I recently read a blog post about how November is all about preparing for Christmas and December is for enjoying Christmas. That idea really resonated with me……I try to have my Christmas shopping complete, my decorating done and gifts mailed off by December 1st. December is so much more enjoyable if all the hustle and bustle business is finished and the days become about doing whatever makes you happy……be it baking a special treat or getting together with friends. My sweet Mom made this urn for me before she left…I love it and my front door is all ready for Read More »
hello november….
always be grateful……
Normal day, let me be aware of the treasure you are. Let me learn from you, love you, bless you before you depart. Let me not pass you by in quest of some rare and perfect tomorrow. Let me hold you while I may, for it may not always be so. ~Mary Jean Iron
