Who remembers this salad? It’s an oldie but goodie.
Five Cup Salad or Ambrosia.
It could also be called, “5 Minute Salad” too, because, literally that is what it takes to make.
I hadn’t had this salad for decades until I had it at my cousin’s house a few years ago.
And it was so good.
How many times have I mentioned ‘heat wave’ this week, but I have to say it again…with the recent heat wave and our lack of air conditioning, I have been making low cook or no cook foods this week.
I made this for dessert for us.
It’s cool, light and refreshing.
And in case there is anyone who hasn’t tried this, here is the recipe.
It is so easy that the kids could make it!
1 cup sour cream
1 cup pineapple tidbits
1 cup madarin oranges
1 cup mini marshmallows (I used the coloured ones}
1 cup shredded coconut
Mix together and refrigerate.
Tastes better the next day!
Have a great weekend and stay cool my friends!

Believe it or not I have never tried this salad. It looks delicious though and a perfect dessert for a hot summer day 🙂
One of my favorite things ever! My mom used to make this for me all the time. I made it at Easter when we had all the in laws over. They all thought it looked gross and wouldn't touch it. More for me!
This salad brings back memories of my grandma and Thanksgiving dinner. This was the salad she made every year. Last Thanksgiving my mom made it and my kids LOVED it.
Have a great weekend.
Never saw anything like it.
But, something I DID see today, and tasted, was your picnic, camping (whatever you call it) sandwich.
My sister in law is a fan of yours and she likes to make it and bring it to the beach, which she did today.
And, I got to taste your sandwich. Sooo yummy that I might make it myself (but I do prefer someone else making it, lazy you know).

We eat this every Thanksgiving, with white marshmallows! It rarely lasts til the next day…It is a blast from my childhood! (:
I haven't thought of this salad for years. My Mom's family always made it. Maybe a little different version of it but really similiar. So glad you brought to our attention, great idea for the hot days. My Mom put diced walnuts in it also.
Seems the hot weather is in alot of areas this summer. I don't know where you live, we live in western Co west of Grand Junction. I talked with a friend in Tucson yesterday and it's hotter there than ever, phewy. We have a swamp cooler but there's only one vent in ceiling in front part of house. At least in Tucson they put vents in every room.
It didn't used to be so hot here. Only advantage we have is being up higher and having a good breeze most of the time. Hope it gets cooler for you. We have the cooler and ceiling fans which we'd never do without, they're life savers.
This salad reminds me of when I was a brownie & Girl Scout many many many years ago! I will have to make it for my 3 yr old grandson because he will love it! 😀
Oh!that reminds me of my grandma. She used to make it all the time! Unfortunately she is older and no longer lives in her own home. I bet it would make her day if I took her a small container of this salad the next time I visited. Thanks for the inspiration!
No AC! Yipes! It's been hot here, too. Love your hot weather recipes. And I think my boys might actually eat this sweet salad. It's an oldie but a goodie, isn't it?
Yum – I think I've tried something like this and loved it! I'll be pinning so that I remember to make this in the future. Visiting from niftythrifty linkup – have a great weekend!
