Recently I had the honor of sitting in on a fun session with the paint & decor experts at CIL Paints to learn about what they have predicted will be the hot paint trends for 2016. I love learning about what the predicted trends for home decor are and how those colors will be interpreted in refreshing ways in our homes. CIL has predicted 5 hot paint trends for 2016 and they range from natural brights to brown-hued neutrals. And CIL feels that “paint is the easiest and most affordable way to bring the latest trends into your home.” I couldn’t agree more as a person who loves to transform rooms and accessories with paint. According the the CIL paint experts, here’s what to be expected to be all the rage in 2016.
CIL has chosen Chemise Pink as the CIL paint Colour of the Year and they predict it will be super hot in the year ahead, incorporated in all elements of home decor from walls to furnishings to accessories.
The Comforting colour trend will be combining colours reminiscent of military fatiques, a green such as Luscious Moss, a dark gray like Obsidian Glass, and an earthy brown like Brown bag, in varying degrees of saturation and intensity that will promote a feeling of comfort and protection.
The Organic trend will focus on the colours of nature, along with pretty accents in golds and warm metallics. Warm berry reds and rich browns will also feature in this liveable trend.
The Vibrant trend has the flexibility to be big and bold with the inclusion of fuschia, bold pink, and a bright shot of indigo, combined with brown-hued neutrals. This palette also includes a clean white along with a solid brown to ground this statement-making palette.
Along with these paint trends, CIL has also predicted 3 popular paint techniques will be the rage for 2016. These include adding gold to accessories, neo-traditional decor with traditional piece transformed by vibrant colour such as the side board shown below, and tone-on-tone colours schemes that use the same colour in different intensities used throughout the room.
With the 2016 paint palette’s overall theme of tranquility, other colours topping the list of CIL paint trend colours for next year are: Swiss Coffee (50YY 83/057 MC44) pale grey, Lily Pond (70GY 63/098 SE25) pastel green, Sweetwood (90YR 26/147 MC42) soft brown, Great Grey (50BG 14/036 CP50) light charcoal, Espadrille (18YR 05/072 CP42) chocolate brown, Antarctic Ice (70YY 73/083 MC48) muted grey, Winter’s Silence (50YY 49/191 SE20) tan, Fuchsia Berry (40RR 11/430 DL02) fuchsia, and Peacock’s Plume (16BG 24/357 DL28) teal. This juxtaposition of brown-hued neutrals and natural brights is an updated look from the grays, blacks and acidic brights from previous years. It’s a modern and liveable colour scheme that translates beautifully into any decor style.
