I just love decorating for Christmas and not too long ago I shared my full Christmas house tour HERE. Have you ever become obsessed with something in decorating? Well…for me this year it is fresh plants. I adore adding fresh plants and greenery everywhere! And it doesn’t matter if they are evergreens or succulents…I just love fresh greenery in every room. I really wanted to make something for our dining table that would last over the holiday season and take us right into January.
Sooo, using an old crate I had, along with a fresh coat of paint, I bought some small plants to create this fun DIY planter box.
I found everything I needed for this project with a one-stop shopping trip to Home Depot, where I found the CIL Paint testing pots on sale for $3.97 {until Dec. 20 at your local Home Depot}.
CIL Paints has a full range of 1,224 colours for you to choose from that are perfect for any DIY project you might have this holiday season…whether it be painting ornaments, refreshing a wall, or painting crates or wooden boxes like I did!
{You might remember that this past summer, I was a CIL Home Decor expert on the road, and I got to help CIL customers choose colours for their homes!}
I had a CIL Tester mixed up in yummy ‘Amazing’ which I thought would look fabulous with green plants.
In no time at all, I had this quick project going with two coats of ‘Amazing’ on this small crate I had in the basement.
When the crate was dry, I lined it with a plastic bag to make sure that it would not leak water when the plants were watered.
Then I filled it with some potting soil for the plants.
Then I added lots of beautiful succulents, an ivy, a small tree, a few bulbs and even a few sparkly ornaments and a pine cone.
And now we have a lovely fresh planter box to enjoy during Christmas.
And if you have a friend who loves plants, this would also make an amazing Christmas gift!
This newly painted red crate box adds a perfect touch of fresh green plants to our home.
If you are feeling inspired to paint a small DIY project this holiday season, don’t forget about those CIL Testers on sale at Home Depot for $3.97. For the price of a cup of coffee, you could have some beautiful new decor for your home this holiday season too!

This is really cute! I'm not sure I could get those particular plants but I bet I could find similar ones. Great project to do over the holidays!
