Hello Friends! Happy Fall!
Are you working on any DIY projects around the house this Fall? What is the number one thing on the top of your list?
Are you working on any DIY projects around the house this Fall? What is the number one thing on the top of your list?
Are you turning your attention inside, or are you hurriedly trying to finish a project or two outside?
Recently, I the opportunity to work with CIL Paint and Home Depot as a ‘Home Decor Expert on the Road’ where I appeared in Home Depot stores in my area to help people choose paint for their projects.
On three different evenings in three different locations, I had the chance to chat and help shoppers with all of their paint questions, and I learned a few things!
I cannot even begin to tell you how much fun I had chatting with customers and helping them choose the perfect paint for their project. Many customers had pictures of their space on their phone to show me, and a few even brought in bedding or fabric to help in the selection.
The most common room that people are painting for Fall? Can you guess what it is? It is a room where people spend a lot more time during the winter and they want it to be cozy and relaxed. If you guessed the bedroom, then you are right!
The most popular paint project that I gave help for was the bedroom….so many people are painting their bedrooms before winter. I saw elementary age children getting their bedrooms painted as well as young adults going to post-secondary school and adults…all with a vision for a fresh new colour for their bedrooms.
The most requested colour was a gray…which completely makes sense because gray is a popular colour in home decor right now…which can be seen in every current home decor magazine.
The customers that I saw wanted a soft gray that was fresh and airy.
Here are the beautiful CIL grays that I recommended…with Fine Silver and Tulle White being the favourite choices.
The next most requested colour was a soft beige/white.
I found that lots of shoppers were trying to cover over a bold colour that was left by a previous occupant of the bedroom.
Here are some really pretty CIL whites that I recommended for those who were looking to escape bold colour.
And one young lady came to me looking for soft shade of her favourite colour…purple.
After I asked her about the colour of the furniture already in the room, together we chose ‘Touch of Violet’ as the perfect colour for her new look.
The next most popular paint project for Fall after bedrooms were living rooms, with one customer even bringing in a fabric sample that was going to be made into drapes. She loved the turquoise in the fabric below, so we chose ‘Sassy Sage’ for an accent wall in her living room.
I think it’s a fabulous colour what will work with the fabric for a really fun colour scheme.
And you know what else?
I even had the opportunity to share some tips for choosing paint colours on my local CTV news show!
My number one tip for painting bedrooms is to always start with the bedding first. Choose the bedding and then the wall colour. It is so much easier than choosing a wall colour and then trying to find a comforter or quilt to go with it.
And although my visits to Home Depot for the CIL Decor Experts On The Road program is over {sadly}, if you live in the Vancouver area or Ontario, there are still Home Decor Experts at Home Depots on Thursday evenings just waiting to help you choose the perfect paint colour for your project.
Check the schedule HERE for dates and times!
How about you? Do you have thoughts of painting your bedroom before winter?
If you need help choosing colours, you can always email me with a picture, and I would be more than happy to help!
Happy Fall!

Oh my goodness Angie. My whole house needs to be painted. My husband won't ever pick up a paint brush or roller I'm very frustrated. . I don't think I would paint a gray in my bedroom, because our winters here in northwest Ohio are already so gray and cold . Not sure what color I would go with. Maybe a warm yellow or coral. I do have a question for you. I have a west facing family room with Fruitwood stained crown molding and the same a round the fireplace and windows. I have no idea what color to paint this room. It's kinda a dark room until later in the day. My couch is a cottage style slipcover ed cream. I also have blues and greens. I would love any advice or suggestions! I think the ceiling is 10 feet high.

How cool! I love the sassy sage. We desperately need to have a large part of our house painted but I'm going to have to hire someone. We have a two story wall on the stairs and vaulted ceilings, which the husband and I are not qualified to tackle.
