One of the sounds that you will hear coming from our kitchen everyday is the sharp sound of the blender as either one or both of my kids make their morning smoothie. In fact, you will likely hear the whirl of the blender after school and in the evening as well because our house is ga-ga over smoothies at any time of day, and with ingredients such as fresh fruit, milk or yogurt, it’s a healthy snack that I encourage my kids to make for themselves. My son’s favourite fruit is mango, so this Minute Maid Mucho Mango Smoothie recipe developed with the Canadian Living Test Kitchen is a perfect after school snack for him.
One of the things that I love about smoothies is that they are a great testing ground for trying out new foods and flavour combinations. And although school’s out, kids’ learning and curiosity shouldn’t stop once the books are closed for the school year. A fun and delicious way to encourage kids to stay curious is by involving them in the kitchen by preparing and tasting new flavours and textures. I have always found that making a smoothie is an easy way to convince kids to try a little bit of something new. With a mixture of frosty fruit, a small amount of a new flavour can usually go over well when included in a smoothie….especially when kids can help drop things into the blender cup and push the button themselves for the fun part. And this smoothie recipe is delicious!

Hands-on time: 10 minutes
1 can {250 mL} Minute Maid® Frozen Smoothies Tropical
1 cup frozen mango pieces
1 banana
1 cup milk
1/2 cup coconut flavoured 0% Greek yogurt
In blender, combine Minute Maid® Frozen Smoothies Tropical, mango, banana, milk and yogurt; puree until smooth.
And as a special touch, I always like to add a little fruit garnish to top off drinks to make them look….you know….even more awesome.
Minute Maid has partnered with the Canadian Living Test Kitchen to create a new line of recipes that will spark creativity and help pave the way for future curious culinary exploration. Another one of the recipes that they have created is Baked Sweet Potato Fries and Orange Curry Dip. This combination has a subtle flavour kick that will introduce young eaters to the sweet-savory combination in a familiar way since most kids won’t turn down French fries. And keeping kids curious about foods and trying new things is always a good thing. As a mom to a formerly picky boy, I always felt so happy when I was able to convince him to try a new food!
