Today I am getting together with 2 of my very favourite girlfriends for a fun & creative ‘card day’.
We are meeting for a few hours so we can make cards. Each of us must come up with a design for the group to make.
After pouring throught some magazines and books for ideas, I decided to design cards that included a fun & whimsical pinwheel.
I came up with 3 different colour combinations…blue, orange & green.
Pink,gray and green.
Blue, orange & yellow.
And I added a birthday greeting since it’s the type of card we use most often.
Here they are….I love how they turned out!
How To Make A Pinwheel:
- .Cut a square in the size that will fit your project. I used a 3×3 inch square for these cards
- Cut an “X” on your square, being sure not to cut thru all the way thru the middle or you will have 4 separate pieces of paper.
- Then fold one side of each triangle down as shown. Secure with a medium size glue dot {or whatever adhesive works for you….glue, hot glue, etc.
Keep folding the same side of each triangle to the middle as shown.
When all 4 sides of the pinwheel are folded in, then add a small button using another glue dot.
Then glue the pinwheel to the project.
Note: This pinwheel does not move. It is for decoration only.
Although I used my pinwheel to make cards, you could use it for many other things like a package decoration, or it could be glued to little sticks for decorations for food or plant pots, or whatever you heart desires!
Have you made any cards lately?

I love all of the paper pinwheels you see around right now but have never tried to make one. They are not as hard to make as I thought. I am going to try to make one and if it turns out I may make some for my daughters party.

Wow these are soooo fun! I'm going to have to start making some of these to use as present toppers instead of those tacky dollar store bows!

Too funny. While searching for a craft to do last week with a group of after school kids I work with, I thought, "oh pinwheels would be perfect…lovely and springy and happy and easy". Well, they are only ages 5-10ish and it was easier said than done! It became a bit of a gong show when I had to speed fold 17 pinwheels in about 10 minutes as they all concluded it was far too complicated. I also did the ones with the thumb tack sticking in the top of an eraser in a pencil….oh sometimes the plan just doesn't work! Good thing those kiddos are adorable and very good to me! 🙂
