Help Canadian Communities Grow Real Food With Kashi’s #PlantItForward Program +Kashi Prize Pack Giveaway!

Hello friends! I hope you are well and enjoying the beautiful weather. I was busy in my garden over the long weekend and I noticed on Facebook that many of my friends were busy planting their gardens with lots of yummy vegetables as well.

I think we are all looking forward to some fresh vegetables later this summer!

You might remember a few weeks ago, I was super excited when Kashi contacted me and asked if I would like to help spread the word about their Plant It Forward program.

Kashi believes that we all need to know more about the food we eat and I couldn’t agree more! Kashi, through the Plant It Forward initiative, has contributed over $100,000 during the past two years to Evergreen’s Seeding Healthy Communities program to help build & support urban gardens across Canada so that communities can get closer to real food by planting it, growing it and nurturing it with their own hands.

I think it’s so important for communities to have the opportunity to grow real food, and to teach and inspire the next generation.

Growing things is such a fun experience for children. My kids absolutely loved starting things from seeds when they were younger!

Real food can be easy to grow and tastes so good fresh from the garden!

According to the Kashi Plant It Forward survey, less than half of all Canadians (46 per cent) have gotten their hands dirty planting, growing and caring for fresh fruits and vegetables. Perhaps more surprising is that one third of Canadians will not visit a farmer’s market or community garden this year. Kashi’s online video, When I Grow Up, shows the need to get Canadians reconnected to real food and where food comes from.

Kashi would really like to encourage Canadians to “Give. Get. Grow.” by celebrating the little farmers in each of us and to get us growing real food.

Whether we have access to a garden, or we simply grow potted tomatoes or herbs in recycled ice cream containers or cereal boxes on a back deck or stoop, there are small ways that all of us can get closer to real food.

Kashi would like us all to Put Up Your Hands for Real Food.
