On the third Monday in February {this year February 18th}, some provinces in Canada celebrate a special day called “Family Day”. There is no school for kids and lots of businesses observe the holiday so families can have time together. Having a special day in the middle of winter to celebrate family is awesome-sauce…with a cherry on top!
To complete the awesomeness, I have rounded up some fun outdoor and indoor ideas for families to enjoy on Monday, Frebruary 18th…or any time!
1. Besides the ususal skating and tobaggoning, how about some winter hula hopping?
2. Or how about creating this interesting creature in the yard somewhere?
3. Here’s another great activity that kids can try out…tic tac toe in the snow.
4. And when the outside fun is done, you could round up the troops for a delicious hot chocolate bar.
5. If the little and bigs are hungry from the outdoor play, some family friendly Sloppy Joes are perfect for famished tummies. Serve with some home fries, or a salad.
6. Taco Soup made in the slowcooker is a great way to feed the family. Just dump everything together before you go outside and you will come home to a fantastic smelling meal!
7. If colds and sniffly noses, or cold wind chill temperatures prevent outdoor activities, here are some great activities for inside. How about a Snowman Cookie Project made with a can of cinamon rolls and some candy?
8. A pretend “Day At The Beach Lunch” is easy to prepare and makes a lovely lunch for Family Day. You could make it an indoor picnic by spreading a blanket on the floor.
9. Digging some items out of the craft closet for some collage creating will keep little hands & hearts occupied as well. Continue with the “Day At The Beach” theme with a Sea Life Collage created on paper plates.
10. An Ice Cream Dessert Tray makes a nice finish to a meal or can be a fun snack for a movie date.
11. Whip up some cute Jello Jar Monsters by adding your fav jello to some mason jars and then let the kids decorate them with candy.
12. And here’s another special treat you could make for the family…Caramel Apple Dip with Granny Smith Apple Slices. This is my kids’ absolute favourite dip… so delicious and so good with fresh apple slices.
How about your family?
I would love to hear what you are doing for Family Day!
Happy Family Day!

I'm likely going to have a pretty quiet Family Day – some blogging and I would like to finish up the wedding photo album (only 3 slots left to pick photos for).
Great suggestions. What are you up to?

Some cute ideas Angie. My youngest and I are going to Drumheller with some other family members to check out the dinosaurs. I've never been, so I'm really looking forward to it! Enjoy the day with your family. =)

Today is President's Day in the US of A and my kids are sleeping in…but we have plans to enjoy lunch out, go see a movie, and attend a Boy Scout Troop Potluck!

All great ideas (especially the caramel dip lol.) We spent ours with a drive and a lunch out together. Now hubby and youngest went to watch a hockey game in another town and oldest and I are hanging out puttering around the house. Love the extra day off work/school. Have a great week.

We celebrate a Family Day at least once a month disguised as a Movie Night! Just that once a month event seems to keep us all connected. Love your blog! I just clicked to follow you too!

I just started trying to teach my 21 month old to hula hoop. Ha! I don't expect he'll learn it anytime soon (I'm in my 30's and I still don't have it mastered!) but it is so cute watching him try. 🙂 Thanks for the great list!
