Hello there! I am so excited to share this brand new project with you. I created this cozy & comfortable reading nook in our master bedroom for just under $100 and I have to say that I am pleased as punch with how it all turned out. This reading corner was actually created by accident because I just happened to see 2 chairs for an amazing price at a yard sale and that is what got the ball rolling with making this corner into a beautiful sanctuary for reading or lounging.
And this reading corner is just part of a larger master bedroom makeover that I have been working on for a month now that I will be revealing very soon!
First, I have a confession to make. This corner of our bedroom has been empty, with the exception of a table filled with junk, for 9 long years. It was always one of those projects that I always meant to get around to, but just never did. Budget was a big factor as I did not want to spend hundreds on just a corner in our bedroom. And although I had looked any many chairs over the years, I just couldn’t make a decision.
While scoping out a huge Boy Scout yard sale in my city, I spied these two chairs. The price on them said $25 each. Good deal, right? But I went home to think it over. Then when I went back, it was starting to rain {see the rain drops on the chairs} , and these chairs were marked down to just $5 each! I couldn’t believe my luck. So before it began to really pour, I enlisted my neighbour’s help in getting these loaded on a truck to bring home.
And once at home, the whole corner quickly came together with the chairs in place. With a need for a small round table, a lamp, pillows and accessories, I began looking at Kijiji to see what I could find.
I found the small black table and white bookcase on Kijiji. The brass floor lamp was a Value Village find. And then I added some new things with lumbar pillows and a shade for the lamp from Target.
Then I shopped the house for accessories to fill the book shelf and table.
And the chairs are completely comfortable for two old gals.
I may sew slipcovers for them in the future, or get them completely recovered.
Or maybe just settle for some new foam in the cushions.
Both my husband and I love our new reading corner.
And it’s an amazing metamorphosis from the empty corner that it once was.
Here’s a breakdown of the costs:
2 Yard Sale Chairs at $5 each =$10
2 pillows from Target at 50% off @ $8 each=$16
Round black table from Kijiji=$20
1 brass floor lamp from Value Village=$12
1 Lamp Shade from Target=$20
White Billy Bookcase from Kijiji=$20
Total=$98
This is my absolute favourite kind of makeover….one that doesn’t break the bank and turns out looking great with a few fresh accents and some love!

Nice job on your reading corner, Angie! I loved it when viewing your master bedroom makeover post. I gave our favorite sofa and chair a little "lift" with some batting wrapped around the cushions before we moved. That may be all you need.
