Designing & Growing A New Flower Bed

May 8, 2014 by Angie 28 Comments

I am so excited to begin this new gardening project. You see, my husband and I have been talking about building some raised flower & vegetable beds in our back yard for some time now, and we are finally going to put our small dreams into action. The plan is to have a series of both small and large raised beds built into this small flat area of our yard which has a retaining wall to hold back the higher elevation. We plan to add herbs, vegetables and a cutting flower garden for me! I have wanted a cutting garden since forever…you know…one of those adorable little flower gardens which not only look pretty but provide a place where I can go in my slippers and apron to cut a few stems to fill some vases with beautiful fresh flowers whenever the mood strikes.
In order to make these raised beds, my husband recycled some pressure treated 6″ x 6″ posts we already had and cut them to length to fit the space. Then we added some top soil to prepare the bed for planting. Now we wait for the threat of snow to move out of the forecast before I go ahead and plant the beds.

For this project, I am excited to use this brand new Miracle-Gro flower magic™ product. It’s a flower seed mix from Miracle-Gro that includes flower seeds, fertilizer and coir {a super absorbent growing material}that shakes on a garden in minutes and blooms all summer long. Miracle-Gro flower magic™ comes in two mixes…a Multicolour Mix which includes up to 29 varieties of flower seeds,  and a Pink & White Mix which includes up to 16 varieties of flower seeds. It’s available wherever you find Miracle-Gro gardening products and retails for  $16.99. I think it would also make a fantastic Mother’s Day gift too!
For busy families, this is a perfect way to grow some gorgeous flowers without getting dirty or spending a ton of time buying seeds, preparing and planting. Miracle-Gro understands that everyone wants beautiful flowers in their garden and makes it easy and effortless with this fantastic mix. It’s simply SHAKE, WATER & GROW!
I am going to shake on the Miracle-Gro flower magic™ this weekend and I am going to share with you each week how this raised flower bed is going to be transformed into a beautiful flower garden. So please stop by each week for 6 weeks and see how my garden progresses! And let me tell you, I am really excited to SHAKE, WATER & GROW! I mean…how easy is that? Want to learn more? Just watch this video to see how easy it is to grow your own gorgeous flowers too!

So here’s my future gorgeous flower bed. Please come with me on my journey as I share a weekly update on the transformation of this bed!
You can follow the progress by keeping up-to-date with me on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram by following #flowermagicCA !

We're in the middle of a yard reno this year and so I have not even touched my garden yet, knowing we're moving stuff around. By the time we're done, darnit, I do plan on having gorgeous flowers growing somewhere, and this would help a lot!

This would help! I really need to color in my yard. No flowers at all! I have plans for some bushes and flowers and am planting some tomatoes, zucchini and carrots this year.

I would be using this Miracle Gro to sprinkle in a bed just off the deck which I had worked up this year. It would look amazing and would really enjoy it when we are sitting on our deck.

My yard is an empty canvas at this moment and I am planning wisely as to what I want in it. Probably things that require little care. I have my planters ready for flowers and the miracle grow would come in handy to make them look their best.

What beautiful beds! Can't wait to see the weekly updates – I think that is such a neat idea.

My husband I just starting working on our yard last year when we moved in. My husband told me that there are are flowers missing. I would love to perhaps make some raised beds as well (if it's pretty easy) and start a flower bed/gardening area! Plus, it would give some more life to our backyard with beautiful colors.

We are revamping out flower beds this year, and I'm putting in a new shade bed but that would leave some gaps where I'll transplant plants to the new bed. I could use the seed to fill in! I would use the products to get this bed off to a good start! Well, the hammock and beverage will be for afterwards:)

Angie, I am a known killer of a cactus. I would love to spread Miracle Gro throughout my property to ensure beauty in the form of flowers and not weeds. Easy peasy Miracle Gro is the way to go! I'm buying some even if I don't win….but the hammock would allow me to enjoy my flowers more!

I plan on using Miracle Gro flower magic in my front yard garden. I've created a space there along side my perennials to put in lots of annuals for colour. This year's colour (I always choose a different one) will be hot pink. I love petunias and geraniums.

    Thanks.
