So today I scheduled in a little time to tackle this project that I have been wanting to do forever.
Not really forever. But at least since I re-organized my office space.
I had greetings cards ‘thrown’ into an Ikea storage box.
Every time I wanted a card, I had to rifle through the whole box to find what I was looking for.
No more.
I took some bright pink cardstock and my index tab punch.
I love that index tab punch.
I love that index tab punch.
{I chose bright pink cardstock because it’s easy to see and doesn’t blend in with the cards.}
I cut the cardstock with the paper trimmer to make ‘dividers’ to fit the box and punched tabs from white cardstock for each divider. I stapled the tabs to each divider.
Then I sorted the cards into piles and wrote on each tab the contents.
Then I filed each card pile into the appropriate spot.
Now I have this:
This project cost nothing since I used things I already had…a paper trimmer, cardstock and index punch.
{You don’t really need an index tab punch….you could just use small squares of cardstock.}
And here’s one hint:
I buy most of my cards at the dollar store and the size fits nicely into this box.
If you buy more expensive cards…they are usually bigger and won’t fit into this system as nicely. They may even be too big to fit into the box this way. So if you have bigger cards, you may want to buy a bigger box.

I organize my cards in a similar way – my problem is remembering to use them! I like the dollar store card idea, I don't know why I don't get mine there more often.
I like your "why I blog" quote – mind if I snag it? 😉

Another great idea! It all comes down to the old saying: "A place for everything and every thing in its place."

I've got a box for my cards, as well, Angie, but I do need to do dividers and tabs, too. You're right that it will make it much easier to find a card. I don't have too much on hand at the moment, but what I do have is a mixture.
Grace @ Sense and Simplicity says
Good idea. Guess where my cards are? Thrown into a box. I guess i need to give your system a go since it looks like a fab idea. I"m going to put your post on my inspiring ideas page.

I do this same exact thing! I purchased a photo box from Micheal's last year that came with index cards inside it. Works like a charm. : ) I purchase my cards from Vistaprint, and love having cards readily available to pick from. No running last second to grab a card. Happy Thursday, Angie!

Such a cute idea! I love this! I think I might need to get that punch. I also buy cards inexpensively, and keep them in a box. One of the sets of cards I bought came with dividers; but I could use more dividers.

I organize my cards the same way and I buy most of mine at the dollar store too or I make them. Great minds think alike. Thanks for linking to We're Organized Wednesday.

Even more impressed that you are still so good at sending cards. It is a dying quality!
Great job on organizing them!
I would love for you to link this up to my Organizing Mission Monday link party. I've been working on offices and this would fit in great.
I'm going to give you the link since I'm not on blogger and getting to my link is hard on google.

I really like your tab punch! In our family Christmas exchange the theme was home/handmade gift. I got a calendar and put all of the family member birthdays on it, with a sticker of an envelope 3 days before to remind them to go to the post office. I stocked up on cards for all the birthdays and included extra cards for various occasions (thank you, sympathy etc). It turned out inexpensive because a card outlet was going out of business (cards for 5 and 10 cents!). My Aunt Lisa, who received it, said it was the most creative idea and she hasn't missed a birthday yet! I gave the cards in a box like yours.

That is a neat way to organize your greeting cards. You have everything for every occasion. It's so cool! I can tell that you give a lot of cards, and you receive tons too. Hehe!

What a fabulous idea – if the cards are bigger, you can simply do the cards the other way in the box with longer dividers …
